Indications
- CERENIA (maropitant citrate) Tablets are used to prevent acute vomiting in dogs.
- Also indicated for preventing vomiting caused by motion sickness in dogs.
Dosage and administration
- Administer CERENIA Tablets orally at a minimum dose of 2 mg/kg (0.9 mg/lb) body weight once daily for up to 5 consecutive days.
- CERENIA Tablets can be used interchangeably with CERENIA Injectable Solution for once daily dosing to prevent acute vomiting.
- For prevention of vomiting due to motion sickness, administer CERENIA Tablets orally at a minimum dose of 8 mg/kg (3.6 mg/lb) body weight once daily for up to 2 consecutive days.
- Dogs should be fasted 1 hour before giving CERENIA Tablets, and administration should occur 2 hours prior to travel.
Side effects
- Consult your veterinarian or seek immediate veterinary attention if vomiting persists despite Cerenia® treatment.
- Your veterinarian may reevaluate your pet to check for any serious underlying conditions.
- Rare direct side effects in dogs may include decreased energy, decreased appetite, weight loss, diarrhea, incoordination, excessive drooling, vomiting, retching, trembling, or muscle tremors.
- If you suspect side effects from Cerenia®, consult your veterinarian promptly.
Precautions
- The safe use of CERENIA Tablets has not been assessed in breeding dogs, pregnant or lactating bitches, dogs with gastrointestinal obstruction, or dogs that have ingested toxins.
- Use caution in dogs with hepatic dysfunction.
- Exercise caution when using CERENIA Tablets with other highly protein-bound medications. The concomitant use with drugs like NSAIDs, cardiac, anticonvulsant, and behavioral medications, which are commonly protein bound, has not been studied in dogs.
- The impact of drugs that may inhibit the metabolism of CERENIA has not been evaluated.
- Monitoring drug compatibility is advised in patients requiring adjunctive therapy.
