Indications
- Omega-3 acid ethyl esters, found in fish oil, are used with diet and exercise to lower a specific type of blood fat called triglycerides.
- They might also boost “good” cholesterol (HDL).
- Typically, this treatment is used when other methods like diet changes, exercise, and weight loss haven’t fully controlled blood fat levels.
- Lowering triglycerides and raising “good” cholesterol can reduce the risk of heart attacks and strokes.
- Omega-3 acid ethyl esters are believed to work by reducing the body’s production of triglycerides.
