Dosage and administration

- Take nintedanib orally with food, as directed by your doctor, typically twice daily with approximately 12-hour intervals between doses.
- The dosage of nintedanib is determined based on your medical condition and response to treatment. Adhere closely to your doctor’s instructions regarding dosage.
- Swallow the capsules whole and do not crush or chew them, as the medication has a bitter taste. Avoid opening the capsules. In case of skin contact with the capsule content, promptly wash your hands thoroughly.
- Consistently use nintedanib to derive the maximum benefit from the medication. Establish a routine by taking it at the same times each day to aid in remembering your doses.
Side effects
- Common side effects of nintedanib may include diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, decreased appetite, and weight loss. Should any of these effects persist or worsen, inform your doctor or pharmacist promptly. Diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting can potentially become severe. Your doctor may advise increasing fluid intake if these symptoms occur and may prescribe medications to manage them.

- Nintedanib may elevate your blood pressure. Monitor your blood pressure regularly and inform your doctor if readings are high. Your doctor may prescribe medication to manage your blood pressure.
- Notify your doctor immediately if you experience any serious side effects, including unusual bruising or bleeding, coughing with a congested chest, foamy urine, swelling in the ankles, feet, or hands, or symptoms indicative of liver problems such as dark urine or yellowing of the eyes or skin.
- Seek medical assistance promptly if you encounter very serious side effects, such as symptoms suggestive of a heart attack (e.g., chest, jaw, or left arm pain, unusual sweating) or stroke (e.g., weakness on one side of the body, sudden vision problems, difficulty speaking), sudden and severe back pain or headache, severe stomach or abdominal pain, or abdominal swelling.
- Although rare, a severe allergic reaction to this medication may occur. Seek immediate medical attention if you observe any signs of a serious allergic reaction, including rash, itching, swelling (especially of the face, tongue, or throat), severe dizziness, or difficulty breathing.

Precautions

- If you are pregnant or planning to conceive, notify your doctor. It is not advisable to become pregnant while using nintedanib, as it may harm an unborn baby. Your doctor should conduct a pregnancy test before initiating this medication. Inquire about reliable forms of birth control, such as condoms, while using this medication and for at least three months after the last dose. Should you become pregnant, promptly discuss the risks and benefits of continuing this medication with your doctor.
- The passage of nintedanib into breast milk is uncertain. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding while using this medication.
