Indications
- This medication temporarily relieves the swelling, burning, pain, and itching associated with hemorrhoids.
- It includes phenylephrine, belonging to the class of drugs known as sympathomimetic amines.
- Phenylephrine works by temporarily narrowing the blood vessels in the affected area, leading to a reduction in swelling and discomfort.
- Some formulations may include additional substances like cocoa butter, hard fat, mineral oil, or shark liver oil, forming a protective barrier to minimize irritating contact with stool.
- It is important not to use this product in children aged 12 years or younger without consulting a doctor.
Dosage and administration
- Follow all instructions provided in the product package and, if you have any questions, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
- Apply this product up to 4 times daily, typically in the morning and at bedtime, or after each bowel movement, as directed by your doctor.
- Before usage, clean the affected area with mild soap and water, rinse thoroughly, and pat dry.
- Remove the protective cover from the applicator tip, attach it to the medication tube, and place a small amount of ointment on the applicator tip. Gently insert the applicator tip into the rectum, squeeze the tube to apply a small amount of the medication, and also apply some to the outside of the anus.
- After each use, thoroughly clean the applicator tip and replace the protective cover.
- The dosage is determined by your medical condition and response to treatment. Do not exceed the recommended frequency or duration of use.
- If symptoms do not improve within 7 days, if bleeding or worsening pain occurs, or if you suspect a serious medical problem, promptly consult your doctor.
Side effects
- Typically, this medication does not cause bothersome side effects when used as directed. Mild pain or stinging may occur if the rectal tissue is raw or bleeding. If these effects persist or worsen, inform your doctor or pharmacist promptly.
- If your doctor has prescribed this medication, it is because they have determined that the benefits outweigh the risks of potential side effects. Many individuals using this medication experience no serious side effects.
- Discontinue use and notify your doctor immediately if you experience serious side effects, such as a fast or irregular heartbeat, pounding headache, nervousness, tremors, or difficulty sleeping.
- Although a severe allergic reaction to this drug is rare, seek medical assistance promptly if you observe symptoms such as rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, or difficulty breathing.
