Indications
- Prometrium is indicated for the treatment of secondary amenorrhea (absence of menstrual periods) in women of reproductive age.
- It is prescribed to help induce menstrual periods in women who have not experienced a menstrual cycle for several months but are not pregnant.
- Prometrium may also be used as part of hormone replacement therapy (HRT) in menopausal women with an intact uterus to help reduce symptoms such as hot flashes and vaginal dryness.
Dosage and administration
- The recommended dosage of Prometrium for the treatment of secondary amenorrhea is 200 milligrams (mg) orally once daily at bedtime for 12 to 14 consecutive days per 28-day cycle.
- For hormone replacement therapy (HRT) in menopausal women with an intact uterus, the usual dosage of Prometrium is 200 mg orally once daily at bedtime for 12 to 14 consecutive days per 28-day cycle.
- Prometrium may be taken with or without food.
- Swallow the capsule whole with a full glass of water. Do not crush, chew, or break the capsule.
