Indications
- Requip is indicated for the treatment of Parkinson’s disease.
- It is prescribed to help alleviate symptoms such as tremors, muscle stiffness, and impaired movement associated with Parkinson’s disease.
- Requip may also be used to treat moderate to severe restless legs syndrome (RLS), a neurological disorder characterized by uncomfortable sensations and an irresistible urge to move the legs.
Dosage and administration
- The recommended dosage of Requip for Parkinson’s disease typically starts with 0.25 mg orally three times daily.
- The dosage may be gradually increased every 5 to 7 days based on individual response and tolerability, up to a maximum of 24 mg per day.
- For restless legs syndrome (RLS), the recommended dosage of Requip typically starts with 0.25 mg orally once daily, 1 to 3 hours before bedtime.
- The dosage may be increased gradually every 4 to 7 days based on individual response and tolerability, up to a maximum of 4 mg per day.
- Requip should be taken with or without food, as directed by your healthcare provider.
- Swallow the Requip tablets whole with a glass of water, and do not crush, chew, or break them.
- If a dose of Requip is missed, take it as soon as remembered, unless it is almost time for the next scheduled dose. Do not double the dose to catch up.
- It may take several weeks to achieve optimal benefits with Requip. Follow the dosage instructions provided by your healthcare provider.
Side effects
- Common side effects of Requip may include nausea, dizziness, or drowsiness.
- Some individuals may experience headache, fatigue, or dry mouth while taking Requip.
- Requip may cause changes in blood pressure, leading to symptoms such as orthostatic hypotension (dizziness upon standing).

Precautions
- Inform your healthcare provider about any history of heart disease, psychiatric disorders, or impulse control disorders before starting Requip.
- Use caution when driving or operating machinery, as Requip may cause dizziness or drowsiness.
- Avoid sudden discontinuation of Requip without consulting your healthcare provider, as it may lead to withdrawal symptoms.
- Discuss with your healthcare provider if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding before using Requip, as the safety of the medication during pregnancy and lactation has not been established.

- Keep Requip out of reach of children and pets and store it at room temperature away from moisture and heat sources.
