Indications
- Spiriva Respimat is indicated for the long-term maintenance treatment of bronchospasm associated with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), including chronic bronchitis and emphysema.
- It is also indicated to reduce exacerbations in patients with COPD.
- Spiriva Respimat is not indicated for the relief of acute bronchospasm or for the treatment of asthma.
- It is intended for use in adults only.
Dosage and administration
- The recommended dosage of Spiriva Respimat for adults with COPD is two puffs once daily.
- Each puff delivers 2.5 micrograms of tiotropium bromide.
- Use Spiriva Respimat at the same time each day for best results.
- Do not exceed the prescribed dosage or frequency without consulting your healthcare provider.
- If a dose is missed, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume the regular dosing schedule.
- Do not take extra doses to make up for a missed one.

Side effects
- Common side effects of Spiriva Respimat may include dry mouth, sore throat, cough, and sinus infection.
- Other possible side effects include constipation, blurred vision, urinary retention, and increased heart rate.
- Some individuals may experience allergic reactions such as rash, itching, swelling of the face, lips, or tongue, or difficulty breathing.
- In rare cases, Spiriva Respimat may cause paradoxical bronchospasm (worsening of breathing difficulties).
- If you experience any severe or persistent side effects while using Spiriva Respimat, contact your healthcare provider immediately.
Precautions
- If you have a history of narrow-angle glaucoma, urinary retention, or an enlarged prostate, inform your healthcare provider before using Spiriva Respimat.
- Inform your healthcare provider if you have any allergies to medications or any other substances before starting Spiriva Respimat.
- Before using Spiriva Respimat, tell your healthcare provider about any medical conditions you have, especially heart problems or difficulty passing urine.
- If you experience sudden worsening of breathing immediately after using Spiriva Respimat, stop using it and seek medical attention.
- Contact your healthcare provider if you experience any eye pain or discomfort, blurred vision, or seeing halos while using Spiriva Respimat.
- Do not exceed the prescribed dosage of Spiriva Respimat unless instructed by your healthcare provider.
- Avoid getting Spiriva Respimat mist into your eyes as it may cause eye pain or discomfort.
- Keep Spiriva Respimat out of reach of children and pets.
