Dosage and administration
- The dosage of Symbicort inhaler varies depending on the patient’s age, severity of asthma or COPD, and response to treatment.
- Symbicort inhaler is administered orally by inhalation and should be used exactly as prescribed by the healthcare provider.
- For asthma maintenance treatment in patients 6 years and older, the recommended starting dosage is typically 2 inhalations twice daily, morning and evening.
- For COPD maintenance treatment, the recommended dosage is typically 2 inhalations twice daily, morning and evening.
- It is important to prime the inhaler before the first use and if it has not been used for more than 7 days by releasing 2 test sprays into the air away from the face.
- Shake the inhaler well before each use.
- Before inhaling, exhale fully, place the mouthpiece between the lips, and close the lips tightly around it.
- Inhale deeply and steadily through the mouthpiece while pressing down on the canister to release the medication.
- Hold your breath for 10 seconds to allow the medication to reach deep into the lungs, then exhale slowly.
- Rinse your mouth with water and spit it out after each use to help prevent oral thrush.
- Do not swallow the Symbicort inhaler medication.
- Clean the mouthpiece weekly with a dry cloth to prevent blockage and ensure proper functioning.
- If you miss a dose of Symbicort inhaler, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule.
